The situation of sharks and rays
CONSERVATION PLAN FOR RAYS AND SHARKS IN BALEARIC WATERS
Sharks and rays are the species that have suffered the biggest decline in the Balearics and the Mediterranean in recent decades. Some, such as angel sharks and sawfish, have almost disappeared from our waters. These are species that reproduce slowly and are extremely vulnerable to pressures such as fishing and pollution.
From November 4-7, 2019, Marilles and IUCN have organised meetings aimed at conserving these species in the Mediterranean. The meeting on November 7 will focus on the Balearics and will conclude by establishing an action plan to conserve the species in the region.
